Regional buses
Republic of Cyprus Intercity buses operate frequently between towns and various holiday resorts. Almost all villages are connected by local buses to nearest towns.

Urban and suburban buses operate frequently during the day between 5.30am and 7pm. During summer, in certain tourist areas, buses may operate until midnight.

Taxis
In the Republic service taxis, shared with other people (4 to 7 seats), operate between the main towns every hour or so. There are also rural taxis that operate in hill reports and urban taxis in towns.

Boat trips
Republic of Cyprus
One-day boat excursions (usually including lunch) operate from April to October or November. Trips include Limassol Harbour to Lady’s Mile Beach; Pafos Harbour to Coral Bay and Agios Georgios; Larnaka Marina along Larnaka; Agia Napa to Paralimmi and Protaras; and Lakki along the Akamas coast.

Car rental
The many firms on the island include the internationally known companies; though there are mainly local ones and cars are moderately priced.

Drivers must usually be ages between 25 and 75 and have had a license for more that a year.


Driving
Drive on the left.
Seatbelts must be worn in front seats at all times and in rear seats where fitted.
Random breath-testing takes place. Never drive under the influence of alcohol.
Fuel stations in the south open 6am-6pm with automatic credit card/cash vending at other times. In the north they may open until 9 or 10pm
If you brake down in the Republic of Cyprus a 24-hour towing service is provided by the Cyprus Automobile Association in Nicosia (tel 2231 3131), which is affiliated to the Alliance International de Tourisme (AIT). If the car is rented follow instruction given on your documentation.
