About Pissouri
At one time Pissouri village, on the hill, had a fishing jetty a few kilometres away down the hill, known as Pissouri jetty. Now they are two distinct communities, Pissouri village and Pissouri Beach. The total population in the summer is said to reach around 1100 people, about half of whom are Cypriots, the rest foreign, mainly British, residents and visitors.
Pissouri Village is one of the most attractive and friendly villages in south-west Cyprus. It is situated in the principal vine growing area with sultana grapes covering the surrounding countryside. This south-facing village, set high up on the hillside about 1,000ft above the sea, commands the most magnificent view of some 20 miles of Mediterranean coastline. To the south and east there are panoramic views of the coast, across vineyards, olive and carob trees and to the north one can see the majestic Troodos Mountains. Pissouri is situated just off the main Paphos to Limassol road.
Pissouri has one of the most beautiful and idyllic beaches in the island, maybe in the Mediterranean. As the crystal blue waves meet with the rocky slope, they compose a magical melody that enchants all visitors. This wonderful seashore is two kilometers long; it starts from Aspros Cape and reaches the wild and rocky hills. It is also special for its extraordinary beauty and its organization according to European standards.
Pissouri village is perhaps the only seaside village in Cyprus which has retained its original architecture and environment. The village centre has been preserved with Governmental assistance and a village square which is surrounded by small family run restaurants and cafes.
Pissouri is about a 30 minute drive away from either Paphos (Pafos) or Limassol (Lemesos) for those who want to see more urban life than Pissouri can offer. The village, in addition to the family run businesses in the village itself, provides shops/ entertainment / restaurants situated within the bay / beach area.
